Only two games shy of a potential second championship in three years, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr refused to look any further than Game 3 of the NBA Finals, zoning into the task at hand the day prior to the game.
The Warriors could make history and become the first team to sweep its way to an NBA championship if they win the next two games on the road against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but Kerr won’t let the thought of it become a distraction.
https://twitter.com/anthonyVslater/status/872143221270380546Kerr has been vocally concerned with the 20 turnovers his team had in Game 2, claiming that if his team were to have that same performance at Quicken Loans Arena, they’d surely lose the game.
“We’re trying to go 15-0,” Kerr also told reporters, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.
Golden State has shown two different sides of the coin of what they can put out on the court. A mastery of discipline and defensive awareness in Game 1, turning the ball over an NBA Finals-low four times and holding the Cavaliers to a feeble 34.9 percent from the floor and a high-octane, breakneck-fast pace where the Warriors tallied 132 points along with a whopping 20 turnovers.
Kerr knows the best version of his team lies in the middle of those two opposites — something they’ve yet to find through this postseason.
Focusing on going undefeated the rest of the way could prove a grave mistake, as play will intensify on the road and mistakes could prove costly when playing in a hostile arena.
Preparation starts with coaching and Kerr has said all the right things after returning to his duties in order to keep his team ready for the challenge that awaits.
